Although the Los Angeles Lakers just won three straight, they've struggled as a whole this season. Russell Westbrook's fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis is certainly not working, and it appears the Lakers already explored a possible trade for Russ earlier in the season, per The Athletic.

However, nothing is expected to materialize by the trade deadline because of his massive contract:

All of which explains why sources say the Lakers showed some covert interest in discussing a possible Westbrook trade with rival executives earlier this season. A deal appears extremely unlikely before the Feb. 15 trade deadline, if only because his deal that was once seen by so many as untradeable is such a massive obstacle. But inside the Lakers, it seems, there is some recognition that this hasn’t gone as (James and Davis had) planned.

In a nutshell, Westbrook will likely be on the Lakers for the rest of the campaign. He's currently making $44 million this season, so you can understand why it's extremely difficult to trade him right now.

Russ is averaging 19.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game, which are by no means bad numbers. But that's his lowest scoring output since the 2009-10 season, not to mention the Lakers guard is turning the ball over 4.6 times per game.

For a Lakers team with championship aspirations, his decision-making on a nightly basis is simply not good enough. It doesn't look like he'll be gone anytime soon, though.
