Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson reportedly wants a chance to convince Kawhi Leonard or Kevin Durant to join LeBron James on the Lakers this summer during free agency, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Both Leonard and Durant can become unrestricted free agents after this season ends if they decline their 2019-20 player options with their respective teams.

The Lakers, always considered an intriguing free agent destination, are expected to pursue both stars once free agency begins at midnight on July 1, 2019.

“I've been told Magic wants a chance this summer to convince KD or Kawhi to come to the Lakers,” Windhorst said on ESPN LA 710 AM.

Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant will likely decline their 2019-20 player options because they can make more money on the open market. Both superstars have been linked to possibly joining LeBron on the Lakers.

Leonard is from California, while Durant and James are very close friends off the court. There have been rumors, however, stating that if Leonard leaves the Raptors, he might prefer to sign with the Clippers instead of the Lakers so he doesn't have to live in the shadow of James. The Clippers are reportedly enamored with Leonard and will have cap space to offer him a max contract.

If LeBron and the Lakers want to win a championship during The King's tenure in LA, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka are going to have to get James at least one superstar. Time will tell if they can or not.
