Despite all the trade rumors that have been circling within and around the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, this team has not made any noteworthy moves to significantly improve its roster for 2022-23. There have been a handful of free agent signings, but none that are expected to make a major impact on the team for the season ahead.
At this point, it's quite understandable that the Lakers front office is feeling a bit on edge. According to an unnamed source, there now appears to be some tension within the ranks as LA continues to try and find a way to make a splash this summer:
“They’re eager to do something,” one Western Conference executive told Sean Deveney of heavy.com. “The team they have is just not good enough right now. Everyone there wants to see a resolution to the (Russell) Westbrook situation. They want to see about Kyrie (Irving). They want to get what they can from Indiana once they start selling off pieces, whether it is Buddy Hield or Myles Turner or both. So there is some major impatience, and they are looking at LeBron (James) maybe getting an extension next month and they want to have everything in place. Well, nothing’s in place yet.”

It's no secret that the Lakers have been trying to trade Russell Westbrook after what was a truly forgettable first season with the team. Kyrie Irving appears to be LA's primary trade target, and it seems that they're pinning their hopes on a Kyrie-Russ swap with the Brooklyn Nets.
For his part, LeBron James has one final year on his current deal. If he does not sign an extension in the near future, he will become a free agent next summer. The last thing the Lakers need is for their cornerstone superstar to walk away and leave them for nothing this time next year.
