The New Orleans Pelicans will reportedly not trade superstar power forward Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer under any circumstance, according to Marc J. Spears of ESPN.
The Lakers tried to trade for Davis at the February trade deadline by making all the players on its roster except for star small forward LeBron James available, but New Orleans didn't budge.
Los Angeles president of basketball operations Magic Johnson said the Pelicans didn't negotiate in good faith.
“I've been told there's no way Anthony Davis is coming here through the Pelicans,” Spears said Wednesday on ESPN's The Jump. “They're just not gonna do it.”
The Boston Celtics can acquire Anthony Davis this summer once star point guard Kyrie Irving opts out of his 2019-20 player option with the team.
It is widely assumed the Pelicans want Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and all of the Celtics' draft picks in exchange for Davis.
The Brow can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. AD, of course, has the same agent as James. The Pelicans believe Davis, Rich Paul and James were colluding to try and get Davis to the Lakers.
At All-Star media day, Davis said there isn't a list of teams he wants to play for. He just wants to get out of New Orleans.
