The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealing with injuries to many of their key players this season. They lost both LeBron James (groin) and Rajon Rondo (hand) to injuries following their Christmas game victory against the Golden State Warriors.
However, it seems that Rondo is making significant progress, as he was seen doing some passing drills before the Lakers play the Detroit Pistons.
Despite not being able to use his right hand, Rondo still did some light practice with the team.
Rondo already missed a month earlier this season due to a broken right hand which required surgery. He returned to play for a few games, but then suffered the broken finger on Christmas Day. He again underwent surgery and was reportedly going to miss another month.
Rondo is averaging 8.4 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in 22 minutes for the Lakers this season. While there's still no indication that the veteran guard will be returning anytime soon, the Lakers would still like him to be at full strength. They are expecting him to make a significant contribution in the playoffs, should they qualify.
However, the Lakers are in danger of falling out of the top-eight in the Western Conference. Without James and Rondo, the Lakers have lost seven of their last nine games, including a beat-down at the hands of the cellar-dwelling New York Knicks.
