LeBron James is demanding justice after his close friend's sister, Ericka Weems, was murdered in Akron, Ohio.

James implored his hometown to come together and find the person responsible for this senseless act of violence.

“AKRON OHIO!! My brother’s sister was murdered this past weekend in her home! My brother family need answers to why and by whom,” James tweeted Wednesday. “My city I need y’all to go to work and find out who did this awful, shameful, disgusting thing to such a caring, loving angel!”

Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News reported family members found Weems dead in her bedroom on Monday afternoon, with a gunshot wound to the head. There are no suspects.

James has a relationship with Ericka's brother, Brandon, dating back to high school.

Weems was one of LeBron's high school teammates on those heralded St. Vincent-St. Mary teams, when James built his reputation as the next future great.

The two have remained close through the years, with Weems taking on a role as a college scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers before being named the team's director of scouting ahead of the 2017-18 season. Weems remained in that position even after LeBron James departed Cleveland for the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2018.

Ericka had been running a daycare in Akron, and was supposed to watch a child for a family friend the day she died. Her absence was the first sign things were awry, per Camryn Justice and Bob Jones of News 5 Cleveland.

This has likely been one stress-filled week for LeBron, who had done a lot of work ahead of the general election. Now, he hopes to find justice for Ericka, whom Brandon and other family members described as “loving and caring.”
