Texas Senator Ted Cruz tried to take a shot a shot at former NFL star quarterback Michael Vick after Vick appeared in a “More Than A Vote” video calling on Florida to cease with voter suppression plans. LeBron James suggested such a comment was ignorant.

Cruz initially quote-tweeted the video, alluding to Vick's unfortunate past with dog fighting.

James, who with other professional athletes helped to found More Than A Vote, responded with a quote from James Baldwin.

Vick spent 21 months in prison for his involvement in a dog fighting ring. But he has since attempted to reform his image and become an animal advocate.

Since Cruz apparently seems more interested in tearing down, James thought he would offer his followers a reminder that those in power do not always have the people's best interest at heart. Cruz doesn't seem to have learned his lesson when he took a trip to Cancun as his constituents suffered without heat or electricity following a large winter storm in Texas in February.

Meanwhile, the likes of James and Vick are hoping to ensure voting rights in Florida are not inhibited after the state legislature proposed a sweeping set of reforms similar to those of the controversial bill passed in Georgia.

LeBron James in particular was quite vocal about Georgia during the 2020 presidential election and the senatorial run-off shortly thereafter. He then applauded MLB for moving its All-Star Game out of Atlanta in protest of the new voting bill.

The members of More Than A Vote–including James and Vick–will likely continue to advocate for voting rights whether Cruz continues with failed attempts at humor or actually tries to pass a bill.
