Golf is enduring much controversy due to the PGA taking issue with its players joining the Saudi Golf League tour. The LIV Golf Invitational is a Saudi Arabian backed event that is expected to feature a number of PGA golfers including Dustin Johnson. However, Johnson's participation in the event could cost him sponsors and lead to disciplinary action by the PGA. Rory Mcllroy shared his thoughts on the LIV Invitational saga.

“I certainly don't think they should drop the hammer. Look, they are well within their rights to enforce the rules and regulations that have been set. But it's going to end up being an argument about what those rules and regulations are. I have some very close friends that are playing in this event in London, and I certainly wouldn't want to stand in their way for them to do what they feel is right for themselves.”

Rory Mcllroy continued by admitting he wouldn't participate in the LIV Invitational himself and even threw some shade at the field.

“It's not something that I would do personally. But I certainly understand why some of the guys have went, and it's something that we are all just going to keep an eye on and see what happens over these next few weeks. I certainly don't think the field is anything to jump up and down about.”

The PGA Tour's official statement reads as follows:

“As communicated to our membership on May 10, PGA Tour members have not been authorized to participate in the Saudi Golf League's London event, under PGA Tour regulations. Members who violate the tournament regulations are subject to disciplinary action.”

Dustin Johnson is seemingly prepared to face any disciplinary action the PGA deems necessary. There has also been speculation about Phil Mickelson joining the Saudi Golf league as well. This will be a situation worth monitoring moving forward.
