The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off their fourth straight losing season, which has marked the longest playoff drought in team history.

However, there has been much excitement over in Hollywood this offseason with a new sense of direction that has created much excitement about the future of the team. Although head coach Luke Walton won't commit to giving his expectations for this upcoming season, he did admit as much that the Lakers could be in store for something special in a couple of years.

The Lakers have in place an intriguing young core group of players led by promising rookie point guard Lonzo Ball, who put together a stellar Las Vegas Summer League showing behind his infectious passing and leadership that has only fueled the giddiness about the future of the team.

Los Angeles also added a couple of proven veterans in former All-Star center Brook Lopez and guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the mix that could help the team see much improvement in the 2017-18 campaign.

The manner in which the Lakers play this season could see them land some superstar talent next offseason with the possibility of LeBron James, Paul George, DeMarcus Cousins, and Russell Westbrook all becoming unrestricted free agents.

Although it may all just be hopeful thinking on the behalf of the organization at this point, there's still no denying that there is a buzz around the team that hasn't been there for a few years.
