The Minnesota Lynx take on the Seattle Storm. Our WNBA odds series has our Lynx Storm prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Lynx Storm.

The Seattle Storm finished near the bottom of the WNBA last season. A consistently successful WNBA franchise, which won the league championship as recenty as 2020, watched franchise icon Sue Bird retire. Breanna Stewart went to the New York Liberty to start the next chapter of her immensely successful WNBA career. The Storm lost their thunder and lightning. They needed to create a new Storm surge. In the offseason, they did exactly that by adding two bona fide superstars to help out Jewell Loyd, the WNBA's leading scorer in 2023.

Loyd averaged 24.7 points per game for Seattle last season, but she was doing it all by herself on a team which lacked elite secondary and tertiary options. Now Loyd has two teammates who will relieve her of the burden of having to make every crunch-time bucket. Nneka Ogwumike comes to the Pacific Northwest from the Los Angeles Sparks. Skylar Diggins-Smith also joins the Seattle roster to give the Storm a new Big Three.

When the Storm won the 2010 WNBA title, their Big Three was Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson, and Swin Cash. When they won in 2020, Bird was still there, but Breanna Stewart and the aforementioned Loyd filled out the Big Three. Now it's Loyd holding down the fort with Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith alongside her. The Storm should once again be a factor in the WNBA after finishing near the bottom of the league standings in 2023.

Why The Lynx Could Cover The Spread

The Lynx have an All-WNBA First Team player, Napheesa Collier. She finished fourth in the league in scoring last season while grabbing almost nine rebounds per game and making an impact as a defensive force as well. Collier did it all at both ends of the floor for Minnesota. Having a superstar-caliber difference-maker gives the Lynx a solid foundation for 2024. If the rest of the roster can come together around Collier, this team could be really good.

Seattle, on paper, looks like a strong team, but a new roster with reconfigured pieces might need a little time to come together. Minnesota could stay close enough to not only cover the spread, but pull off an upset win on the road.

Why The Storm Could Cover The Spread

The reality of facing Jewell Loyd was always a tough proposition for Storm opponents in 2023, even though Seattle didn't have the depth needed to become a real factor in the 2023 WNBA. Loyd became the W's top scorer despite a lack of elite secondary options on the Seattle roster. Now that Loyd has help from Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith, all of that should change. It will be extremely difficult for the Lynx and most of the WNBA to hold this Seattle offense in check. The Storm will probably uncork at least one big run at some point in this game to turn a close battle into a comfortable 10- or 12-point win.

Final Lynx-Storm Prediction & Pick

This is the game on the opening night schedule to stay away from. Seattle looks better on paper but might need several games to round into form. Stay away from this game.

Final Lynx-Storm Prediction & Pick: Lynx +7.5
