When Tua Tagovailoa was drafted by the Miami Dolphins, the Alabama Crimson Tide were left with quarterback Mac Jones to lead the offense in 2020.

On the daily Locked On College Football podcast, hosts Zac Blackerby and Isaiah Hole discussed how Jones is now running the offense better than Tagovailoa did when he was playing at Alabama.

Blackerby: He’s starting to get some first-round buzz. He’s starting to get some Heisman buzz. Do you buy it?

Hole: Absolutely. Listen. Without the Big Ten included due to just one game, I’m looking at the scoring offense for what’s going on here. Ohio State and Michigan are 1 and 2, but they’ve played one game. Alabama with five games under their belt are number three. They would be the number one otherwise. With five games under their belt, they are scoring 48.4 points per game. They are ahead of Clemson who has played six games at 48.2.

Blackerby: And Clemson dropped a 70-burger in a game too.

Hole: Exactly. They are number three overall in passing offense. They would be number two is Nevada was not up there. Listen, without Jalen Waddle it's going to be a little bit more of an uphill climb but at the same time, Jones has been dealing. And this is why I always say that people overreact to Michigan losing to Alabama in the Bowl game but they’re still Alabama. It does not really matter. People did not know what to think about Mac Jones but he is running the thing better than Tua did which tells you something, man. They’re just rocking and rolling, and this guy could very well have a Joe Burrow–type year, which I think is very impressive.
