The Orlando Magic have been one of the most surprising teams of the 2017-18 NBA season thus far. They have even managed to go 7-4 despite the eight-game absence of starting point guard Elfrid Payton due to a hamstring injury.

Payton did not miss a beat when he returned to action on Wednesday to record his first double-double of the year. Although he remains listed as healthy for now, head coach Frank Vogel is still concerned with his availability for tonight's game versus the Phoenix Suns, according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel:

“It's still a concern. He is going to give it a go unless I'm told otherwise upon his pregame warm-ups.”

Vogel's concern comes as no surprise considering how long hamstring injuries tend to linger. Although he would be more than happy to have their true point guard back on the court, there is no need to rush with the Magic playing so well without him.

Despite playing in just three games this year, Payton recorded a double-double in his first game back on a healthy 29 minutes. His strong performance could indicate he is healthy enough give it a go on the road in Phoenix albeit on fewer minutes at Vogel's request.
