The Orlando Magic are a surprising playoff contender in the Eastern Conference but they haven't been great at home, sporting an 8-8 record at the Amway Center.

However, Magic head coach Steve Clifford wants to start making his team's home floor a difficult place to play, according to John Denton of the Magic's official team website.

“If we’re going to become the team that we need to be, we need to start winning in our building and with our fans,’’ said Clifford. “This should be a very good homecourt advantage and the fans here are great. When I was here before, we never lost in this building and that’s what it’s got to get back to.’’

The good news is that Orlando has won its last two home games, defeating the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz. However, prior to those two contests, the Magic had lost three consecutive contests in their backyard.

Orlando has been in rough times, to say the least.

The Magic have missed the playoffs six years in a row, winning 30 games just once during that span. Prior to this recent drought, Orlando was a postseason regular, making six straight trips to the playoffs, including a Finals appearance in 2009.

Of course, that was when prime Dwight Howard was a member of the team, and while the Magic certainly have some good young talent on their roster, they have nothing resembling that just yet.

Orlando currently owns a record of 14-15 and will play host to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
