In a rather surprising turn of events, Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo is actually having a difficult time securing a move to a Champions League club this summer. Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and PSG have already turned down the opportunity to sign him, with Atletico Madrid evidently the last club standing in the pursuit of the Portuguese international.

Well, it appears his options are starting to become limited. Per Get French Football News, it's either play for Atleti or stay with the Red Devils. But, the latter seems unlikely:

Cristiano Ronaldo effectively has two options left this summer – either he moves to Atlético Madrid, the interested club which ticks all of the boxes, or he remains at Manchester United.

The latter is said to be unlikely because of how super-agent Jorge Mendes would interpret such a “demotion” having been unable to find his client a Champions League club. Less than a year after his ultimately lukewarm return to the Premier League, the Portuguese star’s future is increasingly unclear.

Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a productive campaign at Old Trafford last term, scoring 24 goals across all competitions including 18 in the Premier League. But, he's made it clear he wants to play in Europe's most prestigious competition. United finished in sixth place which means they're set to participate in Europa, not the Champions League.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has voiced his desire to work with Ronaldo this upcoming season but with how much Cristiano's agent is shopping him around, there will certainly be a sour taste in the mouths of United and their fans if the 37-year-old does stay put.

Going to Atletico would undoubtedly give Cristiano Ronaldo the opportunity to play in the UCL and be back in Madrid, although Real Madrid supporters won't be too fond of him suiting up for their rivals.

Ronaldo still has time to secure a move elsewhere and it'll be interesting to see what journey he decides to embark on.
