Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani is expected to leave Manchester United as a free agent in the summer transfer window, and according to reports, he already has a destination in mind.

As Fabrizio Romano highlighted, Cavani's plan to leave in June has not changed as he seeks for a “new experience” two years after joining the Premier League giants. Interestingly, he is eyeing to join a La Liga team, with Romano saying that it will be his “priority.”

For what it's worth, South American clubs have also expressed interest in the scorer, including Argentine squad River Plate. However, it doesn't look like Cavani has any desire to move back near home as of the moment.

Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United via free transfer in October 2020. Prior to that, he spent seven seasons with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain where he accumulated a total of 138 league goals. He scored in double digits in six of his seven years in Paris, with his final campaign being the lone exception as he made just four goals in 14 games (seven starts) in 2019-20.

Cavani's decision to leave Manchester United is also not surprising given the fact that he has struggled for playing time in the past two seasons. This 2021-22 alone, he has just played in 12 games–starting in six–and made only two goals. With that said, a change in scenery might be the best for the 35-year-old striker.

It is also interesting to note that among the top flight leagues in Europe, it is only the La Liga and Bundesliga that Cavani has not played in. Before his stint in Ligue 1, he was with Napoli in the Serie A. Considering that, no wonder why he is eyeing to make a move to Spain.

It remains to be seen where he'll end up with, but as Romano noted, he is expected to make a decision sooner rather than later. While he is no longer the same deadly scorer he used to be with PSG, he could still be a valuable back-up scorer who can deliver if given the chance. Hopefully, he'll be able to recapture his form in his next team.
