The Seattle Mariners will open a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday at Camden Yards. We're here to share our MLB odds series, make a Mariners-Orioles prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Mariners are coming off a series where they won two of three against the Kansas City Royals at home. Overall, it highlighted a homestand where they went 4-2. Despite this good stretch, the Mariners are 7-8 in May. Now, they are looking to overcome a tough road trip that starts with the Orioles and continues to the Bronx with a showdown with the New York Yankees.

The Orioles split a two-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays (middle game got rained out). Therefore, they went 3-2 over the homestand. The O's ae 8-4 in May. Ultimately, they are trying to keep their strong play going against a competitive team.

The Orioles went 4-2 against the Mariners last season. Furthermore, they went 2-1 over three games at Camden Yards against the Mariners. Half of the six games last season went under 8.5 runs. Also, the Orioles covered in just one of the three home games.

Bryce Miller takes the mound for the Mariners. He is 3-3 with a 2.66 ERA. Significantly, he tossed six innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out nine and walking two in a win over the Oakland Athletics in his last start. Miller is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA over two starts in his career against the Orioles.

Cole Irvin will likely start for the Orioles. He is 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA. Recently, he went 5 2/3 innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out six in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. But he is just 0-6 with a 7.04 ERA and 22 strikeouts over seven games against the Mariners in his career.

Why The Mariners Will Cover The Spread/Win

For the second consecutive season, the offense is struggling. Ultimately, the Mariners rank 22nd in batting average and 25th in on-base percentage. The Mariners are also 23rd in runs and 19th in slugging percentage. However, they are also seventh in home runs, showcasing their ability to smash the baseball at any given moment.

Julio Rodriguez is having an uneven start to his season. So far, he is batting .266 with two home runs, 13 RBIs, and 17 runs. But the power is severely lacking. Therefore, he needs to figure it out quickly. Ty France is clubbing .243 with four home runs, 14 RBIs, and 15 runs. Ultimately, his numbers are down from what it was in past years. Cal Raleigh is “all-or-nothing” at the plate. Accordingly, he is hitting .218 with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs, and 21 runs. Mitch Haniger is batting .216 with six home runs, 21 RBIs, and 17 runs. Thus, he looks to find some spots to hit the baseball.

The pitching staff is once again elite. Correspondingly, they are sixth in team ERA. The bullpen is also solid at holding hitters down, ranking eighth in team ERA.

The Mariners will cover the spread if they can find more ways to make life difficult for Irvin. Then, they need their starting pitcher to avoid making mistakes against the Orioles.

Why The Orioles Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Orioles have a good offense. Currently, they rank 11th in batting average and ninth in runs. They are also first in home runs and slugging percentage. Therefore, the only thing this offense needs help with is on-base percentage, where they rank 22nd.

Gunnar Henderson has been a solid leadoff hitter, batting .259 with 12 home runs, 27 RBIs, and 30 runs. Not to mention, he is 1 for 3 with an RBI in his career against Miller. Adley Rutchman is batting .314 with nine home runs, 27 RBIs, and 24 runs. Uniquely, he is 1 for 5 with two strikeouts against Miller.

Ryan Mountcastle is hitting .272 with six home runs, 18 RBIs, and 22 runs. By the same token, he is 2 for 3 against Miller. Anthony Santander is batting .220 with seven home runs, 25 RBIs, and 21 runs. Amazingly, he is 3 for 5 with one home run and one RBI against Santander. Ryan O'Hearn is hitting .290 with five home runs, 13 RBIs, and 13 runs this season. Yet, he is 1 for 5 with two strikeouts against Miller.

The pitching staff also does a good job of helping this team win. Currently, they are fifth in team ERA. This bullpen also does a good job of beating hitters, ranking seventh in team ERA.

The Orioles will cover the spread if Irvin can avoid his past woes against the Mariners. Then, they need to figure out Miller and hit the baseball against him.

Final Mariners-Orioles Prediction & Pick

The Orioles are the superior team. However, the Mariners are currently leading the AL West. This could easily be a potential playoff preview. As for this matchup, the Mariners look to show what they can do. Miller has done relatively well against the Orioles. Conversely, Irvin has struggled in his career against the Mariners. The struggles will continue as the Mariners find a way to cover the spread against the Orioles on the road.
