Dallas Mavericks phenom Luka Doncic has certainly earned his stripes as a legitimate superstar talent in the NBA. At just 21 years old, the Mavs stud has already drawn comparisons to several all-time greats and Hall of Famers. Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle likened the Slovenian Sensation to no less than three all-timers: current Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, Lakers legend Magic Johnson, and Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird.

Via Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

“At any time,” Carlisle says, “you can see something you've never seen before.

“I played with Bird. For three years straight, I watched, and that was the feeling when you watched him every single night. Magic Johnson was the same kind of player. Really, LeBron James is the same kind of player, too. These guys can do anything on a basketball court.”

That's as great a trio as anybody can put out there. Being compared to LeBron, Bird, and Magic must be humbling for the young Mavs star.

Carlisle arguably has the best seat in the house in terms of watching Doncic's rapid rise to superstardom. Thus, this should be a fair comparison given that the 61-year-old sees the 6-foot-7 guard's growth day in and day out.

Like James, Johnson, and Bird, Doncic is an all-around talent with the way he can impact the game in multiple ways offensively. The kid has proven that he can score with the best of them, as evidenced by his 27.4 points-per-game output. However, just like the three legends Carlisle mentioned, arguably his best trait lies in his passing and his ability to make his teammates better.

Doncic has inserted himself in the conversation for league MVP through the early goings of the 2020-21 season. The 8-10 Mavs, however, need to start winning for the Slovenian to become the youngest MVP in NBA history.
