Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was reportedly arrested at an airport in Moscow more than three weeks ago after the WNBA player was allegedly found with hashish oil vape cartridges in her luggage. On Tuesday, Russian State TV revealed the first image of the detained Griner, in a video shared by CNN.

The photo is being circulated by the main Russian state-run news channel. The image was taken at a police station in Moscow after Griner was detained in February. The photo features Griner holding a sheet of paper with her name written on it.

A Russian official said that “an expert determined that the liquid is a narcotic drug, cannabis oil. A criminal case has been opened against an American citizen for smuggling a significant amount of drugs.”

The Mercury star Griner was arrested on an unspecified date in February and has since been detained by Russian officials after airport security found the vape cartridges in her bag at Sheremetyevo International Airport. Footage of the incident was released earlier in the week, depicting Griner standing to the side while her bags were searched.

Russian Customs Service released a statement indicating that a criminal case has been opened against Griner, who could face up to 10 years in prison for the offense, in what was described as a “large-scale transportation of drugs.”

The Mercury star has played basketball in Russia for the past seven winters, featuring for the club UMMC Ekaterinburg. She plays in Russia during the WNBA offseason, earning significantly more money overseas than she does back in the United States for Phoenix.
