The Mets and Marlins played the first of a three-game series on Thursday and it ended in wild fashion, the way only baseball can deliver.

The bases are loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth, and Michael Conforto steps into the box. The count sits at 1-2 and Anthony Bass looks to deliver the pitch. It comes in a bit inside, but Bass assumes he will get another pitch. However, the umpire loudly yells that Conforto was hit and he gets to take first, scoring a runner and giving the Mets the victory.

Still, the Mets won in heroic fashion and the call was confirmed. Conforto was hit, however minor the hit was. The excitement surrounding the win was odd but hey, the winning run did cross the plate.

Anthony Bass ended the game with the loss and a rough one at that. He only pitched 1/3 of an inning and he gave up three hits and two earned runs. This game brings his early-season ERA to an astronomical 23.14. He was projected to be the closer for the Marlins, but that role is already in question.

The Mets have begun the season 2-2 and they are a team with high hopes entering the year. The Marlins are already 1-6 and the Mets will look to win game two of the three-game set on Saturday at Citi Field.
