The New York Mets have a lot of slots to fill in this offseason. It's a list that includes needing a new manager, and a president of baseball operations, amongst other openings.

While both openings have been swung into motion, there's been an emphasis on the president of baseball operations vacancy. Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, count Billy Beane and David Stearns out.

Beane has been with the Oakland Athletics since 1997 and has been the executive vice president of baseball operations since 2016. Before that, he was the general manager for the A's. From Rosenthal's report, it sounded like the Mets were fairly pessimistic about their odds of luring Beane away from Oakland from the get go.

Stearns is currently with the Milwaukee Brewers and this is the second time in as many years that the Mets have tried to reach out only to have that notion denied by the Brewers. It's left New York scrambling now to look elsewhere.

Things were looking good at the start of the year for the Mets but after the all-star break, things quickly fell apart. Now, they've been left to watch their division rival in the Atlanta Braves take a 2-0 series lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. It's left many in New York wondering why they can't get over the hump.

With Beane and Stearns now out of the picture for a front office role, maybe New York will shift more of its attention towards the managerial spot that needs to be filled. Regardless, there's a lot left to be done this offseason for the Mets.
