The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies put on a great show in their 2024 London Series. They each took a game and played competitively at London Stadium. The players seemed to greatly enjoy playing in a different atmosphere and fans, both of the respective teams and just of baseball, had a blast. But what changes should MLB make for future overseas series to make them even better?

Mets infielders Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil offered some ideas about how the series can look differently and produce more great baseball, according to Ken Maguire of the Associated Press.

Lindor said: “I feel like we had too much time off. I get it, there’s a process of you’ve got to sell the games and stuff like that. But to me … playing the next day (Friday) would have been a little bit more beneficial.”

The schedule gave the Mets and Phillies two days off to see the sights of the city and work off the jet lag — well, unless you believe it’s just a choice like Pete Alonso. Not only is that for player safety/performance but it allows more build-up for the game as players and coaches get to interact with fans and take in the environment across the ocean.

McNeil said: “It would be cool if you had four teams here — you could get five, six games. It is tough coming over here for two games and then flying back to the States. If you could get more teams over here, make it more of an event, it would be a lot of fun.”

Having a round-robin tournament similar to the NBA's In-Season Tournaments is a pretty neat idea. It would add a much different wrinkle to the very long MLB season, which has already become a dag with how few teams are legitimately good. Putting it on the international stage would certainly drum up interest. Staying for longer might lead to more complicated scheduling but it would make the trip much more worthwhile.

There will be no London series in 2025 but there is an agreement for 2026. Overseas series have become a great part of the MLB regular season.
