The New York Mets got their ace and Cy Young favorite Jacob deGrom on the mound for Monday's first game of the doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. deGrom wasted no time and started dealing out of the gate, including hitting triple digits three times.

Well, that is an encouraging sign for the Mets organization as they try and win the National League East and not waste deGrom's unreal start to the season. As deGrom left the mound after the first inning, the umpires checked him for foreign, sticky substances, as the new MLB rule has officially been put into place.

Last time out, deGrom left early in his start against the San Diego Padres and there was fear he would miss time with an injury. However, deGrom returns to the mound, and his first inning was marvelous, and that is probably an understatement.

The Mets are happy to get their ace back. On the season, deGrom has a 6-2 record with an unreal– yet factual– 0.54 ERA heading into Monday's game and there is no doubt he is the front runner for the Cy Young award and is even receiving consideration for the MLB MVP.

Welcome back, Jacob deGrom, and sorry for the opposing hitters.
