The New York Mets had a very busy offseason by adding a number of big pieces, most notably Max Scherzer. Their 1-2 punch of Scherzer and Jacob deGrom received a massive blow on Friday though as it was announced the latter is out indefinitely with a shoulder problem.

Now, it appears Scherzer has also suffered an injury to his hamstring, but it's not expected to be serious.

Via John Heyman:

A promising sign for the Mets that Scherzer thinks it's minor, but it's still scary. New York did such a good job of stacking up their lineup with the likes of Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar, but if their rotation doesn't stay healthy, a playoff run isn't going to happen.

Scherzer is dicing in Spring Training thus far, tossing 11 innings and posting a 2.45 ERA while striking out 12 batters. With deGrom on the shelf, the veteran will undoubtedly be the main man for the Mets. Buck Showalter has yet to name the Opening Day starter, but all signs point to Scherzer now that deGrom is unavailable.

The hard-throwing righty dominated last season with the Dodgers after going to LA at the trade deadline, but they ultimately fell short in the NLCS to the Atlanta Braves. Scherzer then secured a $325 million deal over 10 years with the Mets prior to the lockout.
