Michael B. Jordan exclusively spoke to People Magazine about working with Will Smith in the upcoming movie I Am Legend 2.

The sequel to Smith's 2007 film was announced to be in development with the two stars attached in 2022. Jordan said that the film is “something that is in the works.”

“We're still working on the script and getting that up to par. It doesn't have a release date or anything like that. I'm not sure exactly where we're going to be filming that one, but I'm really excited to get in front of the camera with him. Being somebody that I've looked up to for a really long time, to be able to work with Will is something I'm really looking forward to. I'm really excited,” he stated.

They will be legends… as soon as the script is done

The original film was loosely based on Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name. The story followed scientist Robert Neville (Smith), trying to navigate life as one of the last survivors of a world decimated by a disease which turned humans into zombie-like creatures. The movie was directed by Francis Lawrence.

Smith previously told Entertainment Tonight that he and Jordan were developing the sequel.

“I think it's looking good. [We have some] really solid ideas… I think we're going to make it on screen together. That dude is the truth, so I would love to do that,” the actor said.

It IS a comeback

Smith is currently busy with fourth Bad Boys installment, Bad Boys: Ride or Die which premieres June 7. Jordan was last scene in his directorial debut in last year's Creed III.

Smith is making a comeback after the 2022 Academy Award debacle that landed him in scorching hot water. In the last two years, he has spent most of his time behind the screen as executive producer for the Netflix miniseries African Queen: Njinga. At the Oscars incident which ended with his resignation from the Academy as well as being banned from attending its events for 10 years, he won Best Actor for his 2021 film King Richard. It was his first win and third nomination.

Jordan has been quite busy himself with his Amazon MGM Studios deal. He will next be seen in an as-yet-untitled drama fantasy horror film which reunites him with Ryan Coogler who directed him in 2013's Fruitvale Station, the first Creed movie in 2015 as well as his iconic role as Killmonger in the 2018 and 2022 Black Panther films.

Aside from I Am Legend 2, Jordan has three projects currently in pre-production. He will reprise his roles as Adonis Creed in the upcoming fourth Creed film and as John Clark in the Chad Stahelski film Rainbow Six. He is also set to star in the remake/reboot/reimagining The Thomas Crown Affair movie.

This will be the third take on the wealthy playboy thief. The first iteration was played by the legendary Steve McQueen in 1968 and the second by James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan in 1999.
