There's still uncertainty in terms of Jim Harbaugh's future in Ann Arbor as the Michigan Wolverines head coach. The lure of a return to the NFL is seemingly there for him, and if he ends up re-entering the pros, one name that's floated as his potential replacement on Michigan's sidelines is Matt Rhule of the Carolina Panthers.

Via Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

Panthers' embattled head coach Matt Rhule would be at the top of that list, league sources indicated, with Rhule already considering several college options this past season, and with him firmly on the hot seat with owner David Tepper for 2022 after receiving an eventual vote of confidence from ownership.

Rhule has sound experience as a college football program head coach. He coached for years for the Temple Owls, whom he led to two bowl appearances. Then he went to Waco to coach the Baylor Bears for two years, during which he also led the Big 12 program to a pair of bowl games. Rhule has been sitting on a warm seat, as the Panthers finished another season with only five wins. In his first season with the team, the Panthers went 5-11 in 2020. In the 2021 NFL season, the Panthers ended up with a 5-12 record and looked so outclassed in most of their games.

Michigan is coming off its first College Football Playoff appearance under Harbaugh, though, they got clobbered in the Orange Bowl by eventual national champions, Georgia Bulldogs.
