Michigan State football announced the hire of former Oregon State football coach Jonathan Smith over the weekend. Now he will have one less quarterback in the locker room.

Michigan State redshirt freshman QB Katin Houser intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. He has three years of eligibility remaining and will be immediately eligible. Houser started seven games for Michigan State football this year.

This season, Houser completed 112 of 191 passes for 1,132 passing yards. He had six touchdowns against five interceptions. No word yet on where Houser intends to transfer to.

Shortly after Smith was hired by Michigan State, Oregon State football's star quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei took to social media to share his reaction. He needed one word to showcase his feelings about the move. To put it shortly, Uiagalelei doesn't seem thrilled with the coaching change.

“Well.”

Considering Uiagalelei transferred from Clemson to play for Smith, it makes sense for him to not like the idea of a new coach coming in for the Beavers. Due to this ordeal, there's a chance the star quarterback follows Smith to Michigan State through the portal. If that's the case, then the Oregon State football team may need a new starting quarterback next season.

Smith also recruited highly touted young four-star quarterback Aiden Chiles to Corvallis. Maybe he will follow Smith to play for Michigan State football?

Whatever happens, Smith will have his work cut out for him. But he's already turned around one program in the last five years. There's no reason to think he can't do it again – with or without Houser.
