In the offseason, NBC hired former ESPN Monday Night Football announcer Mike Tirico to help alleviate Al Michaels' schedule. This year, NBC added a number of Thursday night games, forcing Michaels, at 72 years old, to perform double-duty quite a bit.

The plan was to have Tirico take the Thursday night games, but the network received pushback from the NFL. The league cited that, according to their contract, the lead Sunday night announcer is also responsible for the Thursday game.

That forced Tirico into a lesser host-role on SNF, while also working Notre Dame home games on Saturdays.

Michaels broadcasted both NBC games last week, but it appears that the network and the NFL have finally worked out a compromise.

On Wednesday morning, a press release from NBC stated the following:

NBC Sports Group’s Mike Tirico will handle play-by-play for four NFL games on NBC this fall, beginning with this week’s Green BayWashington game on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

The assignments will mark Tirico’s regular-season play-by-play debut on NBC’s NFL coverage, and will provide Al Michaels with a midseason break.

“With the additional games on our schedule this season, it’s nice to have a bye week,” Michaels said. “We’re lucky to have someone of Mike’s caliber to step in with Cris, Michele and the rest of the team.”

Here are the other three games Tirico will announce on NBC with color commentator Cris Collinsworth:

Additionally, Tirico will work the following pair of NFL Network telecasts with Doug Flutie:
