Why the Brewers Could Cover

The Brewers will send Freddy Peralta to the mound to start their first road game of this NLDS matchup, with confidence that the 25-year-old righty can deliver the goods for them. Peralta did not have a good September, going 1-2 with a 4.70 ERA in 23 innings during that month, but at least he came away with a win in his most recent start.

That was when he allowed four runs and fanned five hitters in 5.1 innings of an 8-4 win at home over the New York Mets on Sep. 26. Despite that subpar month, Peralta’s overall body of work this season is a commendable one, as he finished the regular season with a 10-5 record and a 2.81 ERA to go with a 3.14 FIP and an 11.95 K/9. Atlanta has seen Peralta operate at his best which was when he struck out nine Braves hitters and allowed zero runs and only two hits in six innings of a 10-9 victory back in May.

Why the Braves Could Cover

Ian Anderson gets his first start of the 2021 MLB Postseason at home, where he went 5-1 with a 3.52 ERA and an opponent batting average of .207 in 11 starts back in the regular season. Like Peralta, Anderson didn’t post solid individual numbers in September. He was even shaky in his last appearance on the mound, as he allowed two earned runs on three hits while issuing three free passes in six innings of a 5-3 home win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sep. 30. But thanks to Atlanta’s offense, he managed to go 3-0 despite a 4.39 ERA across 26.2 innings that month.

That could be the case again for Anderson in Game 3, with Atlanta’s offense shaving found its rhythm in Game 2. Freddie Freeman went 1 for 3 with an RBI in that game, while Austin Riley, who hit .303 and had 33 homers in the regular season, was 2 for 4 with a homer in Game 2. Although the Brewers believe in Peralta, at least one trend is going Atlanta’s way; Atlanta is 5-1 in their last six games at home against a team with a righty as the starting pitcher.

Final  Brewers-Braves Prediction & Pick
