The Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants for Game 2 and the final matchup of this series! It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Giants-Dodgers prediction and pick.
The Dodgers won the first game Tuesday night 3-1. The Giants have now lost two straight while the Dodgers have won two straight. This will be the final game as they play just a two-game set. LA looks for this sweep with Tony Gonsolin on the mound while the Giants have the southpaw Alex Wood on the bump. SF is (14-9) on the year and LA is (15-7) on the season. SF is 3rd in the division while the Dodgers lead the NL West.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread
Alex Wood is pitching well this season going 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched. He will be tasked with trying to go as far as he can similar to the outing Carlos Rodon had last night. Rodon did his thing against the Dodgers allowing just three hits and two earned runs. If Wood can repeat that performance, then the Giants will be in this game late.
The Dodgers lineup is filled with solid right-handed and left-handed hitters. Wood benefits the Giants tonight as the lefties in the Dodgers lineup struggle against southpaws. Look for the Freddie Freeman, Cody Bellinger, and Max Muncy matchups. If those three guys get to Wood, then it will be a long night for him.
San Francisco is finding ways to win games as they did last season. On paper, this team doesn’t stack up to a majority of the good teams in the league. But they have elite pitching and balanced hitting that gets them over the top compared to their opponents.
Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread
The Dodgers are very capable of covering this spread. They come in as the favorites at home which is the right call. LA usually dominates this matchup, but the Giants never go away. The Dodgers won by two last night and if their starter pitches well tonight then they should once again.
Tony Gonsolin is pitching very well this season. He’s 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings pitched. He’s not pitching deep into games, but he’s pitching solid for the innings he’s out there. If he can get them a solid 5-6 innings tonight and keep the Giants to within a few runs then the Dodgers bullpen can carry them to victory.
LA will need to get to the southpaw tonight. They match up better against right-handers but the likes of Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Will Smith, and Chris Taylor all mash against lefties. Expect those names to attack Wood early to put the Dodgers on the board within the first few innings.
Final Giants-Dodgers Prediction & Pick
I like the Dodgers to cover this spread tonight. The Giants aren’t healthy as they have some crucial names out tonight. Mike Yastrzemski is out on the Covid-19 list and Evan Longoria, Tommy La Stella, and LaMonte Wade Jr. are all on the Injured list. Because those guys are out, I expect the Dodgers to take advantage and sweep the Giants in this short series.
Final Giants-Dodgers Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (+128)
