We're back with another installment of our MLB pick and prediction series as we cover the final game of the first Saturday of the 2023 MLB Regular Season. The nightcap will feature the Cleveland Guardians (1-1) taking on the Seattle Mariners (1-1). Check out our MLB odds series for our Guardians-Mariners prediction and pick.

The Guardians come into this game having won the last game against the Mariners. Cleveland will be sending Aaron Civale to the mound for his first start of the season. Last year, he went 5-6 with a 4.92 ERA, 98 K, and 1.19 WHIP. The right-hander will have his work cut out for him against the pop of the Mariners' bats.

The Seattle Mariners won the first game of this series and will look to get out to a lead at home. Their pitcher tonight will likely be Logan Gilbert. The right-hander had a stellar season last year, posting a 13-6 record with a 3.20 ERA, 174 K, and 1.18 WHIP. He was a workhorse for the Mariners last year and will be once of their aces coming into this season.

Why The Guardians Could Cover The Spread

Aaron Civale will be looking to build on what could have been a better season for him last year. He struggled to close out games and lost consistency in his control. He'll need to be on his game against a talented Mariners lineup that can hit the ball into the gaps. They received a huge boost from Steven Kwan in their last game as he became the second player in franchise history to record five RBI in the first two games of the season. His RBI's proved to be crucial as they beat the Mariners by a margin of 9-4.

The Guardians did a very good job of getting on base against the left-hander Robbie Ray. They'll be facing a much craftier pitcher in Gilbert here, so look for there to be some adjustments in facing the right-hander. The Guardians do well on the base paths and will have success here if they can get on with hits early in the innings.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners will have a ton of confidence as they send Logan Gilbert out to the mound. He was their most efficient pitcher en route to the postseason last year and tied for 26th in total strikeouts. When he's on his game, the Mariners play loose in the box and make a ton of contact with the ball. Look for Gilbert to go out there and assert his dominance early. While they had trouble against Cleveland's ace Shane Bieber in the first meeting, the Mariners are a resilient batting team and will find hits in tight situations.

The Mariners will win this game if they can string together a couple of hits and get the Guardians to work their bullpen early. Civale was inconsistent last year so an early string of runs from Seattle could see him pulled early. Once the Mariners find a rhythm with their bats, it's hard to slow them down. Look for them to get hot here at home.

Final Guardians-Mariners Prediction & Pick

The series is tied 1-1 as both teams showed flashes of brilliance in close games. Seattle will have the sizable advantage in the pitching matchup – it'll be a matter if they can get their bats going against Civale. Let's go with the Seattle Mariners to get it done at home in an exciting Saturday night game.

Final Guardians-Mariners Prediction & Pick: Seattle Mariners (-138)
