The New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles will open a three-game set at Yankee Stadium on Monday evening. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Orioles-Yankees prediction and pick.

New York is right back in the American League playoff hunt thanks to a weekend sweep in Miami. Baltimore certainly isn't in the playoff hunt, but the club has been playing well over the past few weeks as well. The season series has been fairly even as the Yankees are 6-4 through the first 10 head-to-head matchups coming in.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Orioles-Yankees odds.

Baltimore Orioles +1.5 (+115)

New York Yankees -1.5 (-135)

Over 9.5 Runs (-121)

Under 9.5 Runs (+101)

Why The Orioles Could Cover The Spread

The Orioles are undoubtedly one of the worst teams in all of baseball this season. They're 37-67 and have a -1.32 average run differential on the season. They're scoring under four runs per game and allowing close to five runs per game on the road. Baltimore has been playing well lately with wins in six of its last nine games, however. The Orioles haven't lost a series since mid-July thanks to their improved play all around.

Baltimore will turn to Jorge Lopez for the series opener. Lopez has been ineffective this season with a 2-12 record and 6.19 ERA through 21 starts. The Orioles right-hander gave up five runs on seven hits over just two innings in his last start against the Marlins. Lopez has been beaten up by the Yankees this season with 11 runs allowed over 10 2/3 innings of work. He is 1-3 with a 7.23 ERA in six career starts against New York.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Yankees are playing with life again after making some huge splashes at the trade deadline. Left-handed sluggers Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo were acquired by the Yankees at the deadline and both debuted in the weekend series against Miami. Rizzo was the hero with two home runs and a crucial game-tying RBI in the series finale. New York is now 56-48 on the season, leaving them just 2.5 games back of the Oakland Athletics for the second AL Wild Card spot. They have absolutely owned Baltimore with wins in 12 of their last 13 games against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

New York will hand the ball to Andrew Heaney for his Yankees debut. Heaney was acquired at the trade deadline, and the Yankees are hoping that he can provide some solid depth in the rotation. The former Angels starter allowed three runs over six innings in his most recent start against Colorado. The southpaw has a 6-7 record and 5.27 ERA through 94 innings pitched this season. Heaney has struggled in three career starts against Baltimore with a 5.40 ERA over 16 2/3 innings of work.

Final Orioles-Yankees Prediction & Pick

I am rolling with the over in a game that features a weak pitching matchup and two offenses that seem to be regaining life. The Yankees' lineup looks scary on paper again, and they've always had a knack for crushing the Orioles. With Jorge Lopez on the mound for Baltimore, expect New York to put on a hitting display in the Bronx. Baltimore has done its fair share of damage against Andrew Heaney. Although I expect him to be solid, I also expect the Orioles to plate a few runs against the newest Yankee starter.

FINAL PICK: Over 9.5 Runs (-121)
