The San Diego Padres visit the Chicago Cubs for the second of a three-game set on Tuesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Padres-Cubs prediction and pick.

The Padres are falling off as they are now on a brutal two-game losing streak. Of course that is sarcasm as this is first time in a long while that we have seen this Padres team lose consecutive games. It is understandable to drop a game to this Cubs team right now as well. Chicago is 8-2 in its last 10 games and took the first game of this series by a score of 7-2.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Padres-Cubs odds.

MLB Odds: Padres-Cubs Odds

San Diego Padres +1.5 (-215)

Chicago Cubs -1.5 (+185)

Over 8 Runs (-113)

Under 8 Runs (-107)

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread

The Padres have looked like the best team in all of baseball since their underwhelming 10-10 start to the season. They were able to take two of three games against the Houston Astros over the weekend, with both wins coming in extra innings. San Diego had a tremendous month of May, which was highlighted by a nine-game winning streak mid-month. They possess one of the best lineups in the majors.

The Padres will send out left-hander Ryan Weathers for the second game of this series. Weathers has registered three starts since returning to the rotation and has thrown four innings in all three. He has been highly effective with a 2.25 ERA across the three starts. The Padres southpaw is currently 2-1 with a 1.31 ERA in 2021.

San Diego is 16-11 ATS on the road this season and 30-25 ATS overall. They are 13-4 straight up over their last 17 games played and will be looking to bounce back after consecutive losses for the first time during that stretch. The Padres are 25-18 against right-handed pitching this season as well.

Why The Cubs Could Cover The Spread

The Cubs are playing their best ball of the season lately. They are 12-3 over their last 15 games since getting off to an 18-20 start to the year. Chicago had a recent six-game winning streak snapped by the Cincinnati Reds in the previous series, only to bounce back with a big win on Monday. The Cubs have climbed their way up the NL Central standings and will look to leave this series with sole control of first place.

The Cubs' sudden resurgence has been largely associated with their rebirth at the plate. The Cubs had the worst team batting average in all of baseball through the first month of the season and now sit in 11th in baseball at .239. They have feasted against left-handed pitching this year and are 12-3 in games they face a southpaw starter. Chicago has also been phenomenal at home with a 19-10 record at Wrigley Field.

Chicago will turn to right-hander Kyle Hendricks for the second game of this series. Hendricks has picked up wins in each of his last three starts to date. He has a 2.08 ERA during the stretch as well. Hendricks is currently 5-4 with a 4.63 ERA on the season.

Final Padres-Cubs Prediction & Pick

I am high on the over in this matchup for a few reasons. The Cubs have been absolutely tearing the cover off the ball lately and get a favorable matchup against a southpaw. They are scoring over five runs per game at home this season and should continue their success after a seven-run performance in the series opener. San Diego, on the other hand, has been one of the most potent lineups in baseball. That consistent success should translate into another productive night. Hendricks has been hot, but there are few lineups as dangerous as the one for San Diego.

FINAL PICK: Over 8 Runs (-113)
