The Texas Rangers take on the Los Angeles Angels. Check out our MLB odds series for our Rangers Angels prediction and pick.

Dane Dunning gets the call for the Rangers, while Noah Syndergaard gets the starting assignment for the Angels.

Dane Dunning has a 3.92 ERA. He limited the Angels to two runs on three hits in six innings last week. He has had a few rough outings but has generally settled into an identity in which he has been able to give Texas five innings and allow only two runs. He is a competent back-end-of-the-rotation starter who will give the Rangers a chance to win in the final four innings. If Marcus Semien can begin to hit — the number one frustration for Texas this season — the Rangers could become a threat in the American League wild card race before this 162-game journey is done.

Noah Syndergaard has some revenge to gain in this game. The former New York Met has a 3.60 ERA. That ERA was 2.45 heading into a game against the Rangers last week in Arlington. Syndergaard lacked command and was blown out of the box by Texas. He gave up four hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning and was shelled for six runs. He failed to get out of the first inning. Syndergaard has a lot to prove in this game, something which might affect your Rangers Angels prediction.

Why The Rangers Could Cover the Spread

The Rangers have gotten great pitching the past few weeks. Martin Perez is pitching like an ace, but Dane Dunning has been solid and generally dependable. He has enabled the Rangers to remain competitive in the games he starts. Last week against the Angels was a perfect example. Dunning and other Texas pitchers have been surprisingly competent; this team's seasons have often crashed on the rocks of inadequate pitching, but that's not the case this year. The thing holding this team back is Marcus Semien's lack of hitting in front of Corey Seager and the other quality hitters in the top five spots of the Rangers' batting order. If Semien can get unstuck, this becomes a very dangerous team, one which might be able to overtake the Angels over the next four-plus months. (Don't laugh.) This is worth considering when you make a Rangers Angels prediction.

Why The Angels Could Cover the Spread

After last week's struggles in Texas, you know the Angels are going to be out for revenge. You know this team will want to make a statement and punch back against the Rangers, who swept the Halos out of Arlington. Noah Syndergaard in particular will want to wipe away the memory of his ugliest start this season, in which he failed to get out of the first inning. The Angels have a lot to prove in this series. You should see a very focused team here, something which will affect a Rangers Angels pick for many people.

Final Rangers-Angels Prediction & Pick

Dunning pitched well last week against the Angels and Syndergaard pitched horribly against the Rangers. Would you want to bet that happens again, or do you think the odds will even out? The verdict here is that the odds will even out.
