The Tampa Bay Rays will host the Boston Red Sox in the third game of this four-game series tonight at Rodgers Centre. So far, the Rays have won both games one and two of this series and will look to continue their run tonight. With that said, it’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Red Sox-Rays prediction and pick.

Why The Red Sox Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Red Sox are now 47-41 on the season but still 14.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, but also only 0.5 games behind the Rays for second place in the division. They're first in the MLB with a .260 batting average and fourth in scoring 4.7 runs per game. The bullpen is pretty middle of the pack as they have a 3.63 ERA and are tied for 25th in the league with 18 saves. Not the best stats, but hopefully their offense can make up for it in the late innings. Starting on the mound tonight for the BoSox will be rookie Josh Winckowski, who is 3-3 on the year with a 4.35 ERA. He'll look to help propel his team over the Rays for second place in the division tonight.

Why The Rays Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Rays have found a way to secure second place in the AL East (for now) as they are now 47-40 on the season and 0.5 games ahead of the Red Sox, yet still 14.0 games behind the Yankees. They'll look to continue their roll over the Red Sox as they've beaten them four games in a row now. The Rays could use some help in the scoring department as they average 4.2 runs per game, but the pitching has been very solid. Newly appointed All-Star pitcher Shane McClanahan will be getting the start tonight as he is 9-3 on the year with a fantastic 1.73 ERA. If he doesn't get the job done for Tampa, nobody will.

Final Red Sox-Rays Prediction & Pick

To me, this is a pretty simple pick here, just keep riding the hot hand of the Rays, especially when their stud ace pitcher is on the mound. The problem is, can they help out their pitching with hot bats tonight? The odds aren't fantastic for either team, but I'm eyeing the Rays run line. I don't like betting run lines, particularly in games between two very solid teams like this one, but the money is there if they can cash it. With that said, I'm actually just going to take the Rays Moneyline. I don't love the odds, but throw it in a parlay with one or two other teams' Moneylines and it should show up very profitable.
