The Cincinnati Reds take on the St. Louis Cardinals for the start of a 3-game series! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Reds-Cardinals prediction and pick.

The Reds are shockingly coming off of a series win over the New York Yankees. They took Games 1 and 3 on the road in the Bronx and played some of their best baseball of the season. Joey Votto finished with two RBI singles and one in the 10th inning to give them the lead. the Yankees scored two in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a Matt carpenter home run but it wasn't enough to take down the Reds. Cincinnati improves to (34-55) and still owns one of the worst records in baseball.

The St. Louis Cardinals are coming off of a series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. These two teams are fresh from playing against the two top teams in baseball and so it will be interesting to see who has the edge in this series. Clearly, the Cardinals are the better team right now with a (48-44) record but the Reds are showing no quit in them. This series should kick off on the right foot.

Why The Reds Could Cover The Spread

On the mound for the Reds this evening is right-hander Hunter Greene. Greene has been available for the majority of the season which is a good sign for this team. However, the production isn't where the team would like at the moment. He is (3-10) and (1-6) on the road with a 5.70 ERA in 85 innings this year. His strikeout numbers are up there with some of the best in baseball but he does allow quite a few runs per game. Greene allowed 20 runs over the course of his last five starts but only one in six innings last week against the Tampa Bay Rays. Greene is tied for 14th in baseball with 107 strikeouts and should move up the list after tonight.

The offense showed up in the Bronx and it will need to once again tonight. They will be facing a young pitcher as well. The veterans for the Reds need to lead the team tonight and it just so happens that they are in the heart of the order. Brandon Drury has been quite a surprise this year, followed by Tommy Pham and Votto. Votto isn't having a great first half of the season but has a chance to turn it around as the All-Star Game approaches. Those three will need to attack the opposing pitcher and force him out of the game early.

Why The Cardinals Could Cover The Spread

Andre Pallante is on the bump for the Cardinals for his 8th start of the season. Pallante started out hot for St. Louis but has let the league catch up to him over his last few starts. The right-hander started the year in the bullpen but is now making the adjustments to be a starter. He allowed seven runs against the Atlanta Braves two starts ago and is coming off a three-run outing against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 23-year-old has a (2-4) record and 3.18 ERA in 65 innings this year.

The 2022 season Paul Goldschmidt is having is nothing short of historic. The longtime first baseman continues to play at a high level in all areas of the game. He's batting .331 with 19 home runs and 67 RBIs on the year. He's second in both average and OPS, and fourth in RBIs in all of baseball. With the way he's playing and the value of Nolan Arenado and Tommy Edman playing alongside him, this team can beat anyone.

Final Reds-Cardinals Prediction & Pick

The Cardinals are the favorite here for a reason and I believe they will attack Greene early and cover this spread at home.

Final Reds-Cardinals Prediction & Pick: Cardinals -1.5 (+130)
