In a matchup that mostly was not in their favor, to begin with, the Tigers came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard in the first game of this series on Friday by a score of 5-1. Detroit is hoping to give RHP Beau Brieske more of a cushion in the run support game, as the righty from Chandler, Arizona is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in his lone start against the Rockies last Saturday. The Tigers are now 6-13 on the season including 2-5 as the visitor.

Los Angeles was able to snap a miniature two-game slid by overpowering Tigers bats and driving in runs when they needed it the most. At 13-6, the Dodgers are now tied with their rivals in the Giants atop the NL West leaderboard. Future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer Clayton Kershaw will get the nod from manager Dave Roberts, as the southpaw has looked like his old self to start 2022 with a 3-0 record and 2.65 ERA.

Why the Tigers Could Cover the Spread

As stated before their opening matchup with the Dodgers on Friday, the Tigers needed to score some runs, which was obviously a challenge versus Tyler Anderson and company. While Detroit matched the Dodgers in total hits with six apiece, they could not copy LA's run production and timely hitting down the stretch. Now responsible for six consecutive losses, Detroit is in jeopardy of falling way behind the 8 ball in 2022.

Making only his second career start on the mound, right-handed hurler Beau Brieske will be seeking his first-ever win as a Major League pitcher on Saturday evening. Brieske last appeared against the Rockies last week when he gave up a leadoff home run to start the contest only to settle down and allow a handful of hits in five innings tossed. A 27th-round draft pick back in 2019, it only took Brieske 34 minor-league appearances to get the call up to the big leagues.

While Brieske will surely give it all he's got versus a perilous Dodgers crew, there is no excuse for the Tigers to be as poor as they've been inside the batter's box as what they have shown thus far this season. Yes, Detroit may lack talent within the heart of the lineup, but something must be done in order to generate more scoring opportunities for the Tigers to have a chance to compete.

Detroit must do the exact opposite of what they showed last night in getting off to a quicker start and limiting the Dodgers offensive onslaught throughout the entire nine innings. Easier said than done.

The Tigers have struggled against the spread with a 7-12 record in 19 games overall.

Why the Dodgers Could Cover the Spread

Throughout his illustrious career, the Dodgers can always count on Clayton Kershaw pitching a masterful gem more often times than not. In his 15th season with Los Angeles, Kershaw is only three strikeouts away from passing the great Don Sutton for the all-time strikeout lead in Dodgers franchise history. With this incredible feat well in reach, Kershaw will be dialed in against a Tigers bunch that he has had general success against. In two career starts versus Detroit, Kershaw has fired 13 shutout innings while matching that with 13 punch outs.

Even with the Dodgers in a slight funk at the plate, LA's star-studded batting order is not expected to be down for too much longer. With the youngster Brieske on the bump for Detroit, the time is now for the Dodgers to unleash hell upon the Tigers.

After going 0-4 against Detroit on Friday which plummeted his average even further at .145, DH/infielder Max Muncy is yearning to turn his season around with a big-time performance. Sometimes, all it takes is a single hit t0 reset your eyes and see the ball entirely different.

As a team collectively, Los Angeles is one of the most feared offenses in all the land, as they rank within the top ten of almost every hitting statistical category.

The Dodgers have won 13 of 21 games and are 13-8 ATS in 2022.

Final Tigers-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

Barring a meltdown, the Dodgers are just the better team and pick simply put. The Tigers have a chance to keep it interesting, but this All-Star lineup of Los Angeles will prove to be too great for Detroit in a second consecutive night.

Final Tigers-Dodgers Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (-152)
