As the Los Angeles Angels approach free agency, retaining Shohei Ohtani will be the team's highest priority. But Ohtani isn't the only free agent that the Angels have their eye on.

Los Angeles has shown significant interest in former White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, via Bob Nightengale of USA Today. If Anderson were to sign with the Angels, LA would consider moving him to second base.

Shortstop is currently occupied by former top prospect Zach Neto. In his first 84 major league games, Neto hit .225 with nine home runs, 34 RBI and five stolen bases. Luis Rengifo is projected to start at second base, via Roster Resource. He is coming off of back-to-back 16+ home run and 50+ RBI seasons. Bringing Anderson in, LA would be forced to choose between one of their middle infielders playing shortstop with the free agent signee likely moving over to the second.

Things did not go well for Tim Anderson in his final year with the White Sox. He hit .245 with one home run, 25 RBI and 13 stolen bases over 123 games. However, prior to 2023, Anderson was named an All Star in back-to-back seasons. He was a Silver Slugger in 2020 and won the AL batting title in 2019.

As the years go on from Anderson's accolades, many more are going to doubt if he can still succeed at the MLB level. However, the Angels still believe. As they do everything in their lower to keep Ohtani in LA, the Angels are also strongly considering bringing in Anderson for a different look around their infield.
