The Miami Marlins have already traded two-time batting champion Luis Arraez, and they appear to be far from done making moves.

One of the top Marlins players garnering trade interest is left-handed relief pitcher Tanner Scott, via Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Rosenthal also names starting pitchers Jesus Luzardo and Braxton Garrett among players who could be traded by Miami between now and the Aug. 1 deadline.

Scott is set to hit free agency after the season, so it makes sense that the Marlins—who are 20-37—may be looking to send him elsewhere in order to recoup some value for him. Through 23 relief appearance in 2024, Scott has gone 4-4 with a 1.57 ERA while allowing 12 hits and registering 23 strikeouts over 23 innings of work. He has issue 18 walks, but he has managed to pitch around them.

Miami initially acquired Scott in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles back in April 2022.

His first season in South Beach was less than stellar, as he pitched to the tune of a 4.37 ERA and surrendered 55 hits while walking 46 batters across 62.2 frames. Scott did post 90 punchouts, but the 1.612 WHIP was too much to bear.

Last year, however, Scott was dominant, going 9-5 with a 2.31 ERA. Through 78 innings, he gave up 53 hits and only totaled 24 walks, good for a 0.987 WHIP. What's more, he racked up 104 strikeouts.

In eight big-league campaigns between the Orioles and the Marlins, Scott owns a 3.83 ERA while averaging an impressive 12 strikeouts per nine innings.

Tanner Scott is far from the only Marlins player who could be dealt

Scott is an obvious choice for Miami to trade given his impending free agency, but he is certainly not the only other player the Marlins could deal.

Rosenthal has already mentioned Luzardo and Garrett as possibilities, and you have to figure first baseman Josh Bell and third baseman Jake Burger could be on the block, too (although their value is probably very low given how poorly both guys have played this season). Outfielder Bryan De La Cruz is another candidate.

You have to think that the only two Miami players who are untouchable at the moment are starting pitchers Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez, both of whom are out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The Marlins have actually been playing much better baseball of late.

Since starting 6-24, Miami has gone 14-13. It has also gone 10-6 more recently and won four straight series before losing two out of three to the San Diego Padres this week. Considering the injury-riddled Marlins are now finally starting to get some pitchers back, it's no surprise that they are playing considerably better.

Remember: Miami actually made the playoffs last season and was showing a lot of promise moving forward, but its starting rotation was absolutely decimated by injuries heading into 2024.

The Marlins are historically known for having firesales regardless of who owns the team. They did it with Wayne Huizenga in 1998 and multiple times with Jeffrey Loria. Now, Bruce Sherman is in charge, and it doesn't appear that much has changed.

Miami will begin a three-game series with the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
