Braves fans were hopeful that their early season slump would come to an end once Ronald Acuna Jr made his long-awaited return from injury. However, Atlanta still owns a record of under .500 and Acuna's injury woes have returned.
The superstar has been on the shelf for the past two Braves games due to groin soreness. Yesterday, it appeared that Acuna's injury was simply a day-to-day issue that wouldn't linger. But he is out of the Braves' lineup for a third straight day on Saturday and it is officially time for concern in Atlanta.
The Braves were expected to play it cautions with their superstar given the fact that he returned just a couple of weeks ago from a dreadful ACL injury. But teams rarely bench stars for three games in a row unless something is wrong.
It is possible that Atlanta is simply making sure that he is 100 percent before placing his name in the lineup once again. But the fact that manager Brian Snitker won't even DH him is troubling.
Ronald Acuna Jr is one of the best players in the league when healthy. His last full season came in 2019 when he blasted 41 home runs and slashed .280/.365/.518 with an .883 OPS. His mixture of defense, speed, and power makes him one of the all-around most talented MLB players right now.
The Braves are hopeful that Acuna can return to the field as soon as possible. It would be a huge blow if he is forced to miss any extended period of time.
