The Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 in Anaheim on Monday night. With the loss, the Angels have now dropped 12 games in a row. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are heating up and moved past the .500 mark with the victory. Red Sox pitcher Michael Wacha spun a dominant shutout to lead the Red Sox to the road win.

“You’ve got to have confidence in this game to get it done,” Wacha said following his impressive game on the mound. “I feel like with what my pitches are doing right now, and how it’s playing against certain hitters, I felt like if we can get early outs and get the strikeout whenever we need it, things like this can happen.”

Wacha went the distance and surrendered just 3 hits while striking out 6 in the shutout. His effort was capped off by retiring superstar Shohei Ohtani on a ground out to win the game for the Red Sox.

“Anytime (Ohtani) steps in the box, you’re on full awareness out there on the mound and you have to make really, really quality pitches to him.”

Alex Cora also commented on Michael Wacha and the team's overall performance.

“Wins like this, yeah, Michael was the star, he was amazing for us. But this was a total team effort. A 1-0 game, nine innings, nowadays you don’t see that. I’m just glad that I’m part of it.”

The Red Sox and Angels have been complete opposites this season. Los Angeles kicked off the 2022 campaign with a tremendous start while Boston labored. But the Red Sox are now trending in the right direction while the Angels are falling fast in the standings.
