The Chicago Cubs will be activating super utility man Ben Zobrist on Sunday, according to Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM. Zobrist has been on the restricted list since May 6 due to family issues.
In the 26 games Zobrist played before being sidelined, he slashed .241/.343/.253 with 10 RBI over 99 plate appearances.
The 38-year-old is in his fourth season with the Cubs.
He originally signed in Chicago back in December 2015 and went on to have a tremendous first season with the club, slashing .272/.386/.446 with 18 home runs, 31 doubles and 76 RBI across 631 trips to the dish, making the All-Star team as a result. He also helped lead the Cubs to their first World Series title since 1908.
Article Continues BelowZobrist then struggled mightily in his second season in the Windy City, slashing just .232/.318/.375 with 12 long balls and 50 RBI through 496 plate appearances. He bounced back in 2018, registering a slash line of .305/.378/.440 with nine dingers and 58 RBI.
The Eureka, Il. native was originally selected by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 2004 MLB Draft, but he never actually played a major-league game for the Astros before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in July 2006.
He made his big-league debut that season and ended up spending his first nine seasons with the Rays, making a couple of All-Star appearances. His best season came in 2009, when he slashed .297/.405/.543 with 27 homers and 91 RBI.
Zobrist was then traded from Tampa Bay to the Oakland Athletics in January 2015, and in July of that year, he was dealt to the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline and proceeded to help the Royals win the World Series.
