Chicago White Sox star Jose Abreu is clear about his goal to win the MLB World Series this season. He has a huge chip on his shoulder after they got booted out by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the postseason.

But Abreu has another goal in mind this year—and it has nothing to do with baseball. He wants to sing. But not just any song and not just in any dingy karaoke bar. He wants to sing the Star-Spangled Banner in a game.

While it sounds funny, Abreu, the reigning AL MVP, said he wants to do it for a noble cause (Per Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports).

“I’m going to try. My plan is to do it with all the Latinos (on the team), and the way that I want to do it is to show the respect for this country, this community that has welcomed us. I think that’s the right way to do it. I would like to do that before my career ends. I don’t know when. But that’s something that is definitely on the wish list.”

The 34-year-old Abreu, who was born in Cuba, has become one of the more recognizable stars in the MLB since joining the White Sox in 2014. Aside from his AL MVP trophy, he is a three-time All-Star, a three-time Silver Slugger awardee, and a former Rookie of the Year.

While his English is still a little iffy, he has certainly embraced the US as his home.

Apparently, this isn't the first time Abreu has brought up the idea of singing the Star-Spangled Banner in a game. He already wanted to do it even when he was still a rookie.

Hey, if Fergie did it, why not Jose Abreu?
