The Chicago White Sox have been among the busiest teams in baseball in recent days, inking left-handed starter Dallas Keuchel and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion to respective deals in free agency.

However, it does not appear that the South Siders are finished as they make a push to contend in 2020.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported that the White Sox are targeting free-agent outfielder Yasiel Puig despite their acquisition of former Texas Rangers right fielder Nomar Mazara:

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported late on Wednesday that the White Sox were interested in Puig and Nicholas Castellanos, though he noted it was unclear whether the Encarnacion signing changed that level of interest or the level of financial flexibility that Chicago might have moving forward:

Puig slashed .267/.327/.458 with 24 homers in 2019, which he spent with both the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians.

Despite hitting at least 20 homers in each of the past two seasons and boasting a tremendous throwing arm and strong athleticism in right, Puig figures to be vastly cheaper than Castellanos both in terms of guaranteed money and annual average value.

This could make him a nice commodity for the White Sox, who have already spent close to $150 million this offseason between contracts for Keuchel, Encarnacion, and Yasmani Grandal.

The White Sox ranked 29th out of 30 teams in terms of cumulative fWAR from the right field spot, and Puig would supplement the rest of their lineup given his slugging capabilities and strong numbers against right-handed pitching.

Chicago has already gone big in an effort to contend next season, and they may as well match Puig's market value given that he likely has greater upside than Mazara in a corner outfield spot.
