Scary scene for Los Angeles Angels fans as Shohei Ohtani had to leave their matchup against the Chicago White Sox. The dual-threat wonder took the brunt of a nasty slide at home plate from reigning American League MVP Jose Abreu.

Look away, Angels fans. Here's the slide in question:

The injury was unfortunate, considering Ohtani was having a stellar performance on the mound. In 4+ innings pitched, he gave up just two hits, and one earned run while striking out seven White Sox.

Even worse is the fact that the play only happened because of a passed ball error from Angels catcher Max Stassi. Had Stassi held onto that ball, Yoan Moncada would have struck out swinging for the third out of the inning. Instead, chaos ensued and an unsuspecting Ohtani was taken out in the fracas.

The injury doesn't appear to be anything serious. At that point in the game, the Angels pitcher was already at 92 pitches and could have easily been on his way out after the inning anyways. Angels fans can only hope that's the case, as fluke injuries such as this one have long traumatized the halos.

A serious Ohtani injury would be such a huge waste, considering this could be the year he channels his two-way potential to its fullest capacity. While throwing absolute heat against the White Sox, Ohtani flexed his homer-hitting muscles with an absolute bomb to open scoring.

For the sake of Angels fans and baseball junkies everywhere, let's hope Ohtani won't be out for long, if at all.
