The MLB Home Run Derby had everybody tuning in– mainly to watch Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani. The Japanese-born star that has caught the attention of everybody in baseball took the stage with the top seed in the Home Run Derby.

Unfortunately, the Angels star got ousted in the first round in a shocker, losing to Washington Nationals star Juan Soto, finished the round with 22 home runs, including a monster 520-foot bomb that almost left Coors Field.

Ohtani himself got off to a slow start when he came to the plate but hit seven in bonus time to send the round to a swing off.

Then the first swing off between the two sluggers ended in a tie, and they went into a three-swing tiebreaker. Soto got to 28, but that wouldn't;t be enough.

Ohtani ended up tying it up once again and just missed a couple in the final seconds in a thrilling first round of the Home Run Derby.

In the final swing off, each batter is granted three swings, and Soto and Ohtani compete to move on to the second round of the Home Run Derby.

All three of Soto's swings left the yard in the epic swing off. Then came Ohtani, and his first swing didn't leave the park, ending his run in a massive upset in the first round.

What a way to end the first round of the Home Run Derby!
