The New York Mets continue to search for a team president and aren't even close to hiring anyone. Sandy Alderson believes there's one big reason they haven't found a candidate: NYC. Via The New York Post:

“Admittedly there’s a reluctance to come to New York, but I think it’s mostly about New York,” Alderson said Tuesday. “And not about Steve [Cohen] or the organization or what have you. It’s a big stage and some people would prefer to be elsewhere.”

Indeed, it's a big stage. The Mets are a team with high expectations and many front office figures know that a lot of pressure is on their shoulders to succeed. Alderson also made it known on Tuesday that NY is focusing on hiring a GM instead of a president of baseball operations.

There have been several names who turned down the opportunity, most notably Theo Epstein and Billy Beane. Of course, former Mets GM Jared Porter was banned by the MLB through 2022 for sexual texts he sent to a reporter in 2016. They also fired acting general manager Zack Scott after he was arrested for drunk driving.

Alderson noted that he and Mets owner Steve Cohen have both interviewed several candidates for the vacancy, but he offered a rather stern message to anyone who thinks about taking the job:

“If you’re looking to be comfortable, this is probably not the place, the Mets are probably not the place to come,” Alderson said.

Despite the struggle to find the right man, the Mets still have more than enough time to nab someone.
