Once upon a time, New York Mets starter Noah Syndergaard looked like the next big thing in the Big Apple, mowing down Kansas City Royals hitters in Game 3 of the 2015 World Series and showcasing a combination of velocity and nasty breaking stuff.
The Mets had envisioned Syndergaard as a core piece in their rotation for years to come. Though the team has severely underperformed this season and will look to sell at the deadline, most rival executives believed that the asking price for “Thor” would be astronomical.
However, ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney reports that New York's attitude on Syndergaard may be shifting:
Rival evaluators say they believe the Mets are fully intent on dealing Noah Syndergaard before the trade deadline. "It's beyond listening," said one. "They want to move him."

There are likely to be a number of teams interested, with the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, and other contenders all looking to make additions to their starting rotations.
For his part, Syndergaard has had a star-crossed career in the bigs. After showcasing his immense talent in 2015, he exploded into stardom in 2016, posting a 2.60 ERA in 30 starts while making the National League All-Star team and leading the MLB in FIP.
After missing nearly all of 2017 due to a lat tear in his throwing elbow, Syndergaard strung together another excellent season in 2018.
This year has been more of a struggle, as Syndergaard has posted a 4.33 ERA in his first 20 starts. Although some of the peripherals suggest that he has been far better than the numbers suggest, he is also running the lowest ERA+ of his career while posting highs in terms of BB/9 and H/9.
Still, Syndergaard's electric stuff is as good as any other starting pitcher in the majors. With the Mets growing more desperate to move him, expect various contenders to make a play for the imposing right-hander, who still has two more years of control.
