The New York Yankees are enjoying a tremendous season overall. Their pitching staff has been surprisingly dominant, they are winning games left and right, and Aaron Judge is posting MVP caliber numbers. But two important pieces to the puzzle have endured dreadful seasons up to this point. Joey Gallo is hitting under .170 with 52 strikeouts and just 5 home runs. Meanwhile, Aaron Hicks has just 1 home run and is hitting .200.

New York fans are fed up at this point. Many fans are calling for the Yankees to trade them as soon as possible. Their struggles have left manager Aaron Boone desperately searching for answers both on and off the field.

Attempting to successfully utilize players struggling as bad as Gallo and Hicks is difficult enough. But trying to field questions from the media and provide positive answers without criticizing your own players is another difficult battle all on its own.

Aaron Boone did his best to highlight the positives amid their struggles in a recent interview.

“The nine hole is a place I value,” Boone stated after moving Joey Gallo to the nine spot in the Yankees lineup. “I think there’s a pretty good fit there, especially as you turn over the lineup, when he’s going well with his ability to get on base. We’re just trying to space our lefties a little bit better.”

“Controlling the strike zone has been a hallmark through his career and at times, he’s tried to chase a hit a little bit,” Boone said of Aaron Hicks. “That can get you in trouble as a hitter.”

The slumping Yankees' outfielders need to turn their seasons around soon or they could be on their way out of New York.
