The New York Yankees managed to grab one of the best power-hitters in the 2022 MLB Draft Class, selecting Spencer Jones out of Vanderbilt with the 25th overall pick. Yankees fans probably felt like this was something of a familiar pick for the organization, as Jones' profile is eerily similar to that of superstar Aaron Judge. Once the pick was in and fans began familiarizing themselves with the newest member of the Yankees organization, Twitter erupted with comparisons to Judge.
Yankees fans were absolutely ecstatic about effectively landing the left-handed Aaron Judge in the draft, and it's easy to see where those comparisons came from.
This is who the Yankees drafted. Spencer Jones. He’s 6’7”.. he’s literally a left handed Aaron Judge pic.twitter.com/lrvmWICoCm

Much like Judge, Jones' 6-foot-7 stature has him towering over the plate, and his batting stance is fairly similar to Judge, too, albeit on the opposite site.
While many Yankee fans instantly began salivating over the thought of Jones parking baseballs into the short porch in right field, the Vanderbilt product is actually less of a pull-hitter than one might expect. An incredible talent with the bat, Jones sprays the ball all over the field, though it wouldn't be surprising to see him focus on pulling the ball a bit more now that Yankee Stadium is set to be his new home.
Just look at their numbers from their junior season in college, the resemblance is nothing short of uncanny.

It's almost as if they just cloned Judge and turned him into a left-handed slugger considering just how spot-on those statistics are.
The scouts are well aware of the comparison to the Yankees star, and Jones' report is like taking a trip down memory lane to gander at what people were saying about Judge circa 2013.
Baseball America's scouting report on Yankees first-round Spencer Jones reads just like 2013-era Aaron Judge.

It almost feels like the Yankees have somehow found the multiverse and are bringing Judge 2.0 in to slug from the left side, in the form of Spencer Jones.

While Jones probably won't reach the majors for a couple of seasons, fans are clearly fired up over the future in New York, and we're sure Jones' eventual MLB debut will be one many fans have their eyes on.
