Joe Musgrove led the San Diego Padres to a 7-0 victory on Friday night. The star right-hander flirted with his second no-hitter in consecutive seasons before Kolten Wong slapped a double in the 8th inning. Nonetheless, Musgrove worked 8 excellent shutout innings and struck out 6 while allowing just the 1 hit.

Musgrove commented on his emotions during the game in regards to the looming n0-hitter.

“I felt a little more calm. I’ve gone through it before — makes it a little bit easier.”

Nonetheless, Joe Musgrove did make some history in the game. Musgrove earned his 10th consecutive quality start (pitcher throws at least 6 innings and allows 3 or less earned runs) which tied him for the most to begin a season in Padres franchise history.

Musgrove later discussed what made him so effective in the ball game.

“I felt really good. I was able to use just about all my pitches. My backdoor cutter has been a really big weapon for me, and today every one I threw was leaking over the plate.”

Padres manager Bob Melvin commented on Musgrove's performance as well.

“Just a fantastic game again. He’s been doing it all year, and I don’t know if anybody has pitched better than he has this year.”

There is no denying the fact that Joe Musgrove is enjoying a special start to the 2022 campaign. He will be a realistic NL Cy Young candidate if keeps pitching like he has over the first couple months of the year.

The Padres will look to add another victory to the win column on Saturday against the Brewers.
